Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should I use G & D for Concrete Cutting?
A. Unmatched quality with advanced diamond cutting technology.

Q. Will there be any dust or mess?
A. No, we use water with diamond segmented saw blades to cut your concrete. As the water hits these blades, it traps dust particles producing a liquid substance called slurry, which we vacuum up.

Q. How long does this concrete cutting process take?
A. Generally, a doorway “Cut & Drop” takes between 3 to 4 hours from when we arrive until when we leave.

Q. Do you cut from inside or outside of the home?
A. Generally, when possible, we cut from outside. Cutting from exterior to interior allows most water used to cool our blades & eliminate dust to be deposited outside. We also use special water control procedures in interior jobs to make sure any water that does enter is contained.

Q. Will concrete edges of my doorway or windows be smooth?
A. Yes, edges will be smooth as glass. Your openings will be so smooth, level, plumb & square, a door or window can be framed out within it immediately after our completion.

Q. Do you remove concrete from our site?
A. In most residential cases it is not cost effective for us to remove concrete from site, although we do offer this service, it is very expensive. We do, however, break up remaining concrete into manageable football size pieces for easy handling for an additional charge.

Q. Do you install windows and/or doors into openings when you are done cutting?
A. No. You should contact a professional that specializes in this field of construction.

Q. Do you pour concrete foundations, slabs or patios?
A. No. You should contact a professional that specializes in this field of construction.

Q. When is the best time to cut a doorway or window in my concrete foundation?
A. If possible, the best time is during excavation of your project, if any may occur. Your window or doorway can be “Cut and Dropped” into a hole your excavation contractor can dig for you. This saves you break up cost along with no nuisance of removal.

Q. How much do I need to dig out for a basement doorway prior to your arrival if any digging is necessary?
A. You must dig at least 1 foot wider than side cuts (preferably 20”), 8 feet back from a wall, and down to its footing. The doorway is removed in one large piece. If you want to bury it rather than paying to have it “Broken Up”, then it needs to be dug at least 15” below its footing. (We recommend having this area dug out by a professional excavating contractor rather than by hand) Due to time constraints & scheduling it is very important that this task, along with all necessary layout of cut lines be completed prior to our arrival.

Q. How much do I need to dig out for a basement window prior to your arrival?
A. Ideally, You need to dig 1 foot wider than side cuts, 4 feet back from any wall, 1 foot deeper than a bottom cut. Due to time constraints & scheduling, it is very important that this task, along with all necessary layout of cut lines be completed prior to our arrival.

Q. What do I need to remove or clean out in my basement for a doorway or window cut?
A. We need about 5 feet cleared away from the wall inside the basement, with 3 feet clear to each cutting side. Remove any items or shelving that are in this area prior to our arrival. We will need to install protective tarps, with access to a vacuum in this area.

Q. Will there be any fumes?
A. No Fumes, no dust, no mess.

Q. Do you only cut concrete?
A. No, we cut, drill & demolish brick, asphalt, granite or other materials.
